Abstract

This research paper addresses the pressing issue of water scarcity in Solapur district, an arid region facing recurrent droughts. The study explores the importance of water harvesting as a sustainable solution to mitigate the impact of drought. Various water harvesting techniques, including rooftop rainwater harvesting, check dams, contour trenching, percolation pits, and farm ponds, are discussed in detail. These techniques are evaluated for their applicability to Solapur's unique geographical and climatic conditions. The research emphasizes the critical role of water harvesting in improving water availability, sustaining agriculture, and enhancing community resilience. By presenting case studies and successful examples, the paper provides practical insights that can guide policymakers, local authorities, and communities in implementing effective water harvesting projects. The findings of this study contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable water management and hold significance for regions facing similar water challenges worldwide.
