Factors Impacting the Learning Motivation of Students Majoring in Translation and Interpretation at Nguyen Tat Thanh University: A Case Study

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial factor that impacts learning outcomes, especially when active learning strategies are prevalent and dominant in higher education settings. This article aims to understand the factors that influence the learning motivation of students in the Translation and Interpretation major, Faculty of Foreign Languages at Nguyen Tat Thanh University in the 21st and 22nd cohorts. Questionnaires were used to survey 87 students, while individual interviews were conducted with 15 students. Through this procedure, researchers have identified and studied the influences on students' motivation to learn through qualitative and quantitative research methods. The analysis findings indicate that students' learning motivation is primarily impacted by four key factors: the learning environment, academic pressure, psychological aspects, and ambiguity regarding future career paths. Based on these findings, recommendations are provided to teachers, educational institutions, families, and students to boost students' learning motivation. This study will serve as a foundation for upcoming research that will provide recommendations to help teachers, schools, and students enhance student motivation for learning.
